Long Island to JFK car service: prices, timing and tips
From most of Nassau County, JFK is 25 to 45 minutes away by car. From Suffolk it can be over an hour. Here is what a private car from Long Island to JFK costs, when to leave, and how to make the pickup easy on the way home.
Short Answer
Priced by the mile, so the North Shore and Nassau cost less than Manhattan.
Trips between Long Island and JFK use our per-mile pricing: a Chevrolet Suburban is $90 for the first 3 miles, then $4 per mile. A Cadillac Escalade ESV is $120 for the first 3 miles, then $6 per mile. For a lot of Nassau towns, that comes out lower than the $220 Manhattan to JFK flat fare.

These are estimates based on typical driving distance. Your quote confirms the exact fare before you book.
The same pricing works in the other direction, from JFK home to Long Island. Going further east? See our JFK to the Hamptons guide.
Timing
When should you leave for JFK?
The drive itself is short from western Nassau, but the Van Wyck and the Belt Parkway can turn a 30-minute ride into an hour. This is what I plan for:
- Early morning flights (before 9 a.m.): roads are clear, plan 30 to 45 minutes from Nassau
- Weekday afternoons: add 30 minutes for the Van Wyck
- Friday evenings and holiday weekends: add 45 to 60 minutes
- From Suffolk: start with 75 minutes and add the same traffic buffers
Aim to be at the terminal 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international one. When you book, tell us your flight time and we suggest a pickup time.
Coming Home
Pickup at JFK on the way back.
We track your flight, so if you land early or late your chauffeur adjusts. The first hour of waiting after landing is free. At Terminals 4, 5 and 8 you can add Meet & Greet ($85), and your chauffeur waits inside with a sign. Terminals 1 and 7 are curbside only for now because of construction. At Terminal 5, the walk out is the longest at JFK, so curbside is usually faster there. Our JFK terminal guide explains how each terminal works.
Compared
Car service vs. the LIRR and AirTrain.
The LIRR to Jamaica and the AirTrain is the cheapest way to JFK from much of Long Island, and it is a good option if you travel light. With a family, big bags or an early flight, the door-to-door car usually wins: no transfer at Jamaica, no carrying luggage up stairs, and one fixed price for the whole group instead of a ticket per person.
