Car service with car seats in NYC: what parents should know
Getting a toddler, a stroller and three suitcases from JFK to the Upper West Side is a different trip than flying solo. Here is how car seats work with a private car service in New York, and how to book one so the seat is already in the car when you land.
Do you need a car seat in an NYC car service?
Yellow cabs and many for-hire cars in New York are exempt from the state car seat law, which is why a cab driver will not hand you one. That exemption is a legal shortcut, not a safety rating. A child on a lap on the Van Wyck is not protected, and pediatric safety groups all say the same thing: use a seat that fits the child.
With a prearranged car service you do not have to pick between the rules and common sense. You ask for the seat when you book, and it is in the car before you get in.
How car seats work with GeronimoLux
- $50 per seat, requested when you book.
- Tell us each child's age and rough weight so we bring the right type: rear-facing infant seat, forward-facing seat or booster.
- Seats depend on the type requested and availability, so book early, especially for holiday weekends.
- You are always welcome to bring your own seat instead.
- Every family trip runs in a Cadillac Escalade ESV or Chevrolet Suburban, so the seat, a stroller and real luggage all fit.
Which seat does my child need?
These are general guidelines. Always follow your seat's height and weight limits and your pediatrician's advice.
What it costs, start to finish
Airport trips are flat fares in an Escalade ESV or Suburban, taxes included: JFK $220, LaGuardia $180 and Newark $220. Add $50 for each seat. Tolls, parking and airport fees are added at cost and listed on your receipt.
Example
A family of four landing at JFK with one infant seat and one booster, going to Manhattan: $220 + $100 for two seats = $320, taxes included. Gratuity is optional.
Booking checklist for families
- Your flight number, so we can track delays.
- Number of children, their ages and the seat type for each.
- Stroller, any seats you are bringing, and how many bags.
- Want a hand inside the terminal? With Meet & Greet ($85), your chauffeur waits in arrivals and helps with bags, which matters when you are also carrying a child.
Questions parents ask
How much is a car seat with GeronimoLux?
$50 per seat, requested in advance. Tell us the child's age and weight so we bring the right type.
Can I bring my own car seat?
Yes. Many parents prefer their own seat. Just let us know when you book so we plan space for it.
Do NYC taxis and rideshares provide car seats?
Yellow cabs do not. Rideshare car seat options are limited and are not something you can count on for a specific airport pickup. A prearranged car with the seat already requested is the dependable way.
